New Pastime

Carson has had to shovel our driveway two times so far this year. Which isn't to bad if you ask me. The first time it wasn't to deep at all. Then Thursday night we had a snow storm. This is not be be confused with Lake Effect Snow. Apparently a snow storm entails high winds that make visibility very difficult. I was not awake to see the wind because it was windy in the middle of the night. The next day, however, we had a nice amount of snow and Helen had a new favorite thing to do, sit at the window and watch Daddy shovel.

Eggs

Helen loves scrambled egg yolks. She does not love her baby food anymore. We are trying to be sneaky and get the baby food in when we can. So for breakfast we were putting a scoop of baby food fruit on the spoon and then a piece of egg on top of that so Helen would open her mouth for the spoon. This worked very well for about a week and then Helen got smart. She opens her mouth nice and wide for the spoon, we start to move the spoon closer to her mouth, she shuts her mouth slightly so that all that will go in is the egg.

I did not have a picture to go with this blog post. I know usually I put up a random picture of Helen but this time I am putting up a picture of the icicles that are outside of our garage.

MMMM...Water

For the longest time Helen has refused to drink water or juice from her sippy cup. We have tried and tried but she just doesn't seem to like it. Even though we decided that we weren't going to put either of those in her bottle because her bottle is for milk, we even tried that at one point but there was no luck. Yesterday we finally figure it out! I was in the bathroom using mouthwash and Helen was in the floor playing with her bath toys. I heard a strange noise and being the curious mom that I am I looked down at Helen to see that she had put the head of her squirty turtle in her mouth and was sucking out the water that was still in it from the last night's bath. I found this rather disgusting, though I have read that it is okay for the to drink small amounts of bathwater. I told her it was good that she was drinking water but to let me put some fresh water in it, so I did and she drank it all.

New Car Seat

Today Helen got a new car seat. I have finally gotten tired of the infant car seat/carrier. She is hard to get in and out of it plus it weights 500 pounds with her in it. Okay, so not really that much but it's heavy nonetheless. After quite a bit of research we went with the Safety 1rst Alpha Omega. Elite She can ride rear facing in it until 35 pounds which is good because the AAP recommends keeping them rear facing as long as possible. It can be front facing from 22-50 pounds but we're going to keep her rear facing as long as possible. And then it turns into a booster seat! She can use the booster seat for up to 100 pounds. We haven't actually put it in the car and used it yet but from what I've read about it I think we're going to love it.

BOOKS!

Helen loves books. She always has. She has books in every room of the house (except the kitchen) that she looks at all the time. She has recently enjoyed looking through the phone book. Today she spent about 10 minutes just flipping through it seeing what was in there. I had to take it away from her eventually though because she figured out the pages are easy to rip out. I really don't care if she rips them out but we are trying to teach her to be gentle with the pages so I had to take it away from her and give her one of her board books. Luckily she was just as happy with the replacement book.

Today we were reading her "Little Feet Like.." book. It is a touch and feel book. She doesn't use her feet though, she uses her hands. Today however when we got to the page about how little feet like warm sand (it has a square of sand paper to feel) she didn't use her hand to feel it, she decided to lick it. We read the book a few times, each time she would feel all of the things with her hand until we got to the sand paper and she would lick it.

Looking Good

This morning while I was making Helen's scrambled eggs (it's really not eggs it's more of an egg yolk), Carson volunteered to put Helen's clothes on her. I jumped at that offer and he took her out of her crib and put her on the changing table and realized he had forgotten to get her any clothes so I went in and grabbed a couple of things. When he brought her out I looked at her shirt and noticed it was on backwards. When I said something Carson said he thought it was strange there was no design on the front but he thought the buttons should go in the front so that's how he put it on.

Today I whispered something at Carson. I'm not sure what it was but it wasn't anything important, sometimes I just whisper. Then Helen started talking in a very soft voice. I didn't think anything of it until later when it happened again. Then I realized that she didn't want to be left out and she was whispering too! Isn't she the cutest.



She went for her 9 month check up today and is doing great. Perfectly proportional Dr. Green said. She was even impressed that Helen had figured out how to go around me when I sit in front of her trying to distract her from getting something she shouldn't have. She is an excellent sleeper. Dr. Green also mentioned how very independent she sounds. I will admit that I am a proud mom. However, the appointment was not all that great. The nurse who was weighing her accidentally scratched Helen's foot and it was all down hill from there. Helen cried and cried. She would calm down and then someone would enter the room and she'd cry and cry all over again. She was also pretty tired. So, the scratch on top of being tired was all she could take.
